The Nuuuli Vocational Technical High School Special Education Program Team is hosting a celebration for Disability Awareness Month this week, March 25th to the 29th.
This is an annual event in which disability awareness is promoted within the school and community and also expose students in the Special Education program to the various resources available to them.
This year’s theme focuses on how we as a community view and respond to our students with special needs, publicize services provided by the Special Education Program as well as establishing effective partnerships with their parents and families.
The Nuuuli Vocational Technical High School program provides support for students with different disabilities.
These include Autism, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Delayed, Specific Learning Disability, Physical Disability and Multiple Disability. Thirty students are enrolled in the program from grades 9 to 12.
Nine seniors stayed back from graduating because their parents didn’t feel they were ready to leave school.
Among activities for the week, local businesses and companies are helping the school hold a mini career fair for students with special needs. This is to show jobs that are available when students with special needs graduate.
