Samoana is overall winner of 2019 Speech Festival

Magdalene Augafa Leauane of the Department of Education announcing the results of the 2019 Secondary Speech Festival held today at the Army Reserve Center.

Samoana also won last year’s Speech Fest.

Tafuna High School placed second and Leone High School came in third.

In the Impromptu Speech category junior, Yasminna Sanchez won 1st Place.

Nuuuli Votech was second and Fagaitua placed third in this category.

The Home of the Sharks also won the Oral Interpretation with Eciladen Ulu’s performance of Statued Traditions by Selina Tusitala Marsh. Fagaitua placed second and Tafuna was third.

Another first place win for Samoana was in the Free Style Poetry competition. Their winning entry was “I was 13”.

Leone was second and Faasao Marist was third.

In the Story Telling competition, Leone’s Faith Seiuli topped the field with her rendition of Snow White from the perspective of the step mother by Kelly Badgley. Tafuna was second and Samoana was third.

Fagaitua High School won the Original Script Writing category with their performance of “D is the new A” by Tamalii Faga..

Faasao Marist High School was second and Leone and Samoana tied for third place.

This year’s Speech Festival was scaled down because some of the high schools are preparing for the traditional entertainment for Flag Day.
