The three public high schools that performed pese ma siva for the 2018 Flag Day celebration last Wednesday were each given $15,000.
This was confirmed by Department of Education Director Dr. Ruth Matagi Tofiga, who said that Deputy Director Faaui Vaitautolu was called to a meeting this morning when the checks were presented.
Samoana, Leone and Tafuna high schools provided entertainment with Saleaumua Village from Samoa and it was evident that the students and teachers put a lot of effort in their preparations for their performances. Saleaumua was presented $20,000 while the high schools were given $15,000.
Director Dr. Matagi Tofiga called a meeting with the principals of the three high schools this afternoon and personally thanked them for their efforts in making Flag Day extra special.
She also asked that they convey her appreciation to the students, their parents and staff.
Dr. Matagi Tofiga said she has told the principals that it’s up to each school how they use their $15,000, but like all funds given to the schools, she wants an accounting of the spending.
The director said she also reminded the principals that they know what their schools need.
