One of the largest elementary schools in the Western District, Tafuna Elementary School is getting a playground in the new school year, thanks to funding from the Community Development Block Grant Program administered by the Department of Commerce.
An update of the project is included in the 2nd quarter performance report for DOC.
It says that the vendor, Tresmal, has delivered all the playground equipment and the bid for installation has been awarded to lowest bidder IBACE.
The project was to be completed over the summer; however, there was additional ground grading work required which was not on the original scope of the work so the project is at its early stage.
Former Tuala-uta Rep Vui Florence Saulo was instrumental in getting the funding for the Tafuna Elementary playground.
The DOC report says they are discussing possible additions to the playground that may prove beneficial for the students and those supervising them.
The aim of the school playground project is to encourage a more active and healthier lifestyle for children and get them into the habit of exercising from an early age.
The Afonotele Elementary School playground was completed in the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2019.
