Last Friday, the Democratic Party of American Samoa held a special election to fill the vacancy created by the passing of its late chairman, Fagafaga Daniel Langkilde.
The National Committeeman, Aliitama Sotoa, ran unopposed and was elected to the position of Chair via acclimation.
There was an immediate motion to fill the now vacated position of National Committeeman and Mr. Marcus Langkilde was elected to the position.
The Territorial Executive Committee is comprised of: Chair – Aliitama Sotoa, Vice Chair – Taimalelagi M. Tuia, National Committeewoman Petti Matila, National Committeeman Marcus Langkilde, Secretary Salaia Gabbard and Treasurer Caroline Rising-Maxey.
In addition to the special election, the Party also hosted a Social Mixer and General meeting. The social mixer event was just one of many events the party is planning leading up to the March 3, 2020 Territorial Caucus.
About 90 people attended including the American Samoa Community College’s Political Science Club.
The next General Meeting of the party will be held on November 14, 2019 at a venue to be announced.
