Fofo Representative Andra Samoa is calling on the House Agriculture Committee to look into why Dr. Kenneth Lameta is back at the Veterinary Clinic.
Dr. Lameta, who received his degree from the Philippines, had been removed from the Vet Clinic last year by former Director of Agriculture Filifaatali Mike Fuiava after many complaints regarding the treatment of dogs and cats under his care. He was then assigned to treat livestock only.
At the time Tanya Tarasawa was put in charge of the Vet Clinic. However according to Rep Samoa Tarasaw informed her that Dr. Lameta is now back at the clinic.
A post by Tarasawa on FaceBook on Monday states: “FYI, Dr. Keneth Lameta is back at the Veterinary Clinic. We are running low on medication, and things are going back to the way it shouldn’t. ”
Tarasawa had recently warned about the spread of leptospirosis from rats during heavy rains. The rodents are seeking shelter from the rain and entering houses exposing household pets like cats and dogs to leptospirosis.
She said the clinic needs vaccines that only a US certified vet can order.
On Monday the clinic ran out of vaccines and Tarasawa warned that leptospirosis will be on the rise again.
At last week’s cabinet meeting Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua announced that DOH hopes to hire a US certified veterinarian for the local clinic soon.
