At Tafuna High School’s, “ Let Your Voices be Heard,” Gubernatorial Forum it was revealed that the school’s JROTC program has been moved from the lower campus to an already overcrowded upper campus.
The lower campus is now the site of ERATE and DOE offices.
As we’ve reported Tafuna High School PTA is presenting a petition to the governor for the lower campus to remain as part of Tafuna High School.
PTA President William Spitzenburg, one of the panelists who posed questions to the gubernatorial teams asked the candidates what they could do to restore Tafuna’s lower campus and resolve overcrowding at their school.
Candidate for Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga said the relocation of the ERATE Office from Utulei to Tafuna was not an easy decision.
He said it’s to allow for the expansion of the dock, specifically the container yard as the dock is a money making asset of the government.
He said ASG is also looking for other sites to store containers.
Lemanu, the current LT. Governor pointed out having the ERATE Office at the Warriors’ campus would be beneficial for Tafuna High Schools in terms of being close to internet communication.
And this is very important at this time when some classes are done on line.
But he said this should not be set in stone, and if elected they will look at whether there’s other available land to move DOE to and restore Tafuna’s lower campus for the JROTC program which is essential for training cadets for military careers.
The team of I’aulualo and Tapaau said this issue illustrates the need for the voice of students and parents to be heard in decision making.
Candidate for Governor I’aulualo Faafetai Talia said he wasn’t aware of the government’s decision regarding Tafuna’s lower campus but said the issue of overcrowding needs to be addressed.
He assured that their team will look at the situation as a matter of priority.
