The school closest to the Department of Health Quarantine Center is Tafuna Elementary.
Eleven people who had contact, direct and indirect, with the Fesco Askold crew members who tested positive for coronavirus, are in quarantine at the center.
Vice Principal LitaMarie Timoteo Manase said today was a normal day at first but after their morning assembly, parents started coming in to take their children home.
She said about 10-15 kids were released after the school assembly and parents were calling the school constantly asking if they were still holding classes.
“We shared with them that school is still in session,” said Timoteo Manase.
Deputy Director of DOE Faaui Vaitautolu was at the Tafuna Elementary campus during the assembly and instructed that if parents want to leave their children at home then that is their call to make. If they came to school to take their kids home, they could.
The Tafuna Vice Principal, said they are expecting low attendance tomorrow due to their school being next to the Department of Health quarantine site.
“Parents are worried especially with COVID being airborne, ” said Timoteo Manase.
All schools have been instructed to follow preventive measure already in place.
“We’re reinforcing wearing masks and consistent use of hand sanitizers,” said the vice principal.
“Administrators will be at the front gate to take the temperature of everyone entering. Teachers and all staff are aware of symptoms to look for.”
