Alums of Matafao Elementary School are gathering early tomorrow morning to protest the government’s plan to change the name of their school.
Members of the Class of 1994, Carol Alailefaleula Schuster and Liz Crocker Toafa, who initiated a petition against the name change , say they respect the contributions of the late Mr Nikola Pula whom the school is to be named after. He was the first Samoan to serve as Director of Education and is largely credited for lifting the standard of education in the territory.
In a matter of days the petition on FaceBook to retain the name of Matafao has gathered over 600 signatures and growing.
The school’s alums have decided to hold a protest in front of Natafao tomorrow, Tuesday, beginning at 6: 30 to try and stop the name change. And they’ve come up with a suggestion.
