The Womens Fellowship or Mafutaga Tina of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa were told not to be materialistic and focus on worldly things but to be Christlike in what they say and do.
At a prayer service Thursday led by the Chairman of the wife of the CCCAS Chairman Mrs. Vagai Fa’alevao of Amouli, the women delegates heard from Tofailaulala Afuola of Hawai’i who observed that women seem more concerned with the materialistic world than seeking the Word of God and leading a life of prayer.
Mrs Afuola’s sermon was based on the theme of the CCCAS biennial conference which is derived from the Prophet Micah chapter 6 vs 6-8, Which reads in part what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
She said the Prophet Micah has given directions to the women of their rightful roles, that is seeking the will of God in their lives.
The speaker said she sees the very problem that the Prophet Micah saw in his time with the people of Israel with the leaders of the church today.
She claimed that the church leaders are using the throne of God to enrich themselves and doing whatever they feel like and forgetting the will of God that they were called to carry out.
She challenged the Mafutaga Tina “to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God.”
Another speaker, Saifagaloa Paau of the Central Parish, said that there are many women who don’t seem to have any time to spend with God.
From Monday to Friday they go to work, on Saturday they sleep in and on Sunday they cook and do their laundry Sunday afternoon.
Paau said the time to serve God is now and the dearly departed mothers of the church set good examples of being servants of the Lord instead of being servants to the world.
Doris Tofaeono of the Southern California church also challenged the women saying their spiritual lives should far exceed their worldly lives.
She believes that to live a successful life in this world, one must first be successful in their spiritual life.
