The month of March is always filled with awareness activities. Among them is an important initiative to promote music education for students.

March was Music in Our Schools Month which put the spotlight on music as a tool for education and promoting students’ self expression and musical talents.

The Department of Education Music department headed by John Mailo held a first-of-its-kind song writing competition for Grades 6-8 to end the month long celebration.

Mailo said the celebration of Music in our Schools month is a nationwide program by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME. It celebrates the importance of Music Education and its role in our schools. This year’s theme was “Music, The Sound of My Heart.”

For the local songwriting competition the theme was “Youth Empowerment” with the aim of equipping the youth with positive thinking despite of all the struggles they are facing.
