Math and Samoan language are the two main subjects that church ministers and teachers involved in the Dept of Education’s ASIA program have been asked to help with.
ASIA is Aoga Samoa I Alalafaga, DOE’s Samoan Language and Culture Program for the summer.
Opening an orientation for church ministers and teachers of ASIA this morning, Deputy Director of Educaion, Folau Faafetai Teofilo, said the level of math and Samoan language among elementary school graduates entering high school is very low. Hence the DOE director has asked that ASIA focus on these subjects this summer.
Folau commended the support and partnership of the faifeau which has expanded the number of ASIA sites. Initially there were only half a dozen sites but this year there are 16.
Aside from the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, the new churches with sites are Methodist, Catholic and Assembly of God.
The ASIA classes begin next Monday.
