Our very own John Raynar is one of five finalists selected from around the nation to receive The Marconi Award for Small Market Personality Of The Year.
Sponsored by the National Association of Broadcasters, (NAB) The Marconi Radio Awards recognize stations and individuals for their excellence and performance in radio.
In nominating John for the prestigious award General Manager of Southseas Broadcasting Inc Pauga Joey Cummings said: “Measles, coronavirus, tropical cyclones and a tsunami. It’s been another exciting year in broadcasting for John Raynar and the 93KHJ morning show.
“When a measles outbreak in the region briefly sent the territory’s health officials into overdrive, John worked closely with the local government to both craft and spread life-saving information. It was then that the station perfected its playbook for the looming COVID-19 crisis. As the territory locked down and closed its borders, health officials quickly determined that John Raynar’s morning show and podcast were the most effective means of spreading evolving news and information quickly.
“John is also adept at severe weather coverage. A series of major tropical cyclones rocked the region and an 8.1 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami warning. (At separate times, thankfully.) The island remains COVID-free with its borders closed and John Raynar is still leading the community by being the clearinghouse for public information while efforts to repatriate and quarantine returning residents continue.”
Commenting on his nomination, John had this to say.
