A week before school starts the biggest public high school, Tafuna, is having to look for space to accommodate classes after one of the new school buildings on campus was condemned by the Department of Public Works last week.

School staff report that a Dept of Health inspection first discovered cracks in the two story building and there was a follow up inspection by DPW. This led DPW closing the building saying it’s unsafe.

According to teachers, they are having to find space in other buildings to move the classes. that were in the new building.

The contractor for the building was Nana’s Company and was a Capital Improvement Project.

Meanwhile DOH has also closed the Special Education School at Matafao because of unsanitary conditions.

Public schools are to open for the new school year Sept 7.
