The Department of Human Resources has revived a recognition ceremony for long serving employees of the American Samoa Government which used to be a regular event in the 1980’s and 90’s.
The week of Christmas saw 95 employees being honored for 20 to 50 years of service with the government.
There was a church service at the Methodist Church in Nuuuli on December 19 for the honorees, a wave the next morning at Suigaula and a dinner at the Lee Auditorium that night.
A DHR press release said 2 were honored for 50 years of service, 8 for 40 years, 25 employees were recognized for 30 years of service, and 60 for 20 years in ASG.
Each employee received a plaque.
June Auelua was recognized at the dinner event as the Employee of the Year. The 30 year employee is a Division Head II with the Department of Human Ans Social Services.
The Keynote speaker was Tinousi Sema-Jennings who was recognized as the Longest Serving ASG Employee.
The 82 year-old marked 59 years of service on September 24th this yewr.
Jennings, an Associate Director of Nursing at the Department of Public Health, began working for the American Samoa Government in 1962 during the early years of Peace Corps.
She reminisced about the early days in ASG and adviced that employees always look to God for guidance in everything they do.
Director of Human Resources, Lynn Pulou Alaimalo extended faafetai and faamalo to all the honorees for their tautua or service for the government and people of American Samoa.
