Residents of Ofu and Olosega, Manu’a are reported to be highly upset that COVID-19 has been spread to their islands by outsiders and not their own.

This, especially, after residents banded together to prevent the spread of COVID from Ta’ island to their part of Manu’a.

As we reported, two employees of Paramount Builders in Ofu to work on the Ofu Airport tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The Department of Health says, this is unconfirmed until today.

Our correspondent in Manu’a said, “Ofu & Olosega has worked very hard to raise awareness and prevent COVID-19 from hitting their small islands, says our correspondent, It is because their challenges are greater with no airport, if they have a serious outbreak or a resident that needs treatment in Tutuila…they would have to make the treacherous cross by Alia to Ta’ū then drive to Fitiuta.”

Some Ofu/Olosega villagers have taken to social media to express their anger and frustration.

Asked about the mood there, our correspondent said, “ASG Departments of Ofu/Olosega do a wonderful job collaborating and working together. It is a close knit community where most of the government employees are all related, so it’s easy to get things moving because there is also mutual respect. They work hard to support the only DOH Ofu Clinic LPN Palefuiono Sai Ilaoa, because they understand her limitations, so anything to lessen the burden of healthcare system they all rally in as one.”
