The  Samoa parliament will reconvene this morning, and will start with the Swearing In Ceremony for the country’s Head of State.

“The swearing in ceremony will officially reappoint His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aleto’a Suālauvī II as Head of State for another 5-year term,” said a release from the Clerk of Parliament today.

The Chief Justice will officiate the swearing in ceremony, which will be preceded by a prayer service conducted by Father Louis Anthony Visesio Europa II.

Also at today’s session, the leader and secretary of the opposition Human Rights Protection Party, will resume their seats after being suspended indefinitely from the House since May 24, 2022.

Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi, had challenged their punishment which the Supreme Court upheld.

While the court decision ordered that the pair return to their seats, it left the opportunity for the House to revisit the punishment and there’s a possibility the two members may be on suspension again.

The review of the penalty has been handed back to the Parliamentary Ethics Committee.

Also on the agenda is the tabling of the Samoa Ports Authority Amendment Bill.
