The communique for the Samoa Atoa talks held in Apia October 13-14 was released today.

One of the new developments included in the communique is that American Samoa expressed some concerns with the land that the Samoa government gave for the territory’s use, close to Avele College, Vailima.

The concern was the close proximity of the land to the Chinese Embassy.

American Samoa asked the Samoa Government for an alternate piece of property to exchange with the land in Vailima. This land was given to the American Samoa Government more than 20 years ago, and is in exchange for land that American Samoa gave Samoa in Tafuna.

Samoa Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa, tasked the Samoa Minister of Environment, Toeulusulusulu Cedrick, to consider the matter further and to advise accordingly.

At a cabinet meeting today, Governor Lemanu said that they now have a new piece of land in Samoa and revealed that the attorney general and chief of staff have inspected the land.

Chief of Staff Loa Tuimavave Tauapa’i Laupola, told media, after the meeting, that they looked at several sites but no decision has been made.
