Cousins John Ockenfels and Peter Teahen from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, both pilots and both Rotarians, are making the most important flight of their lives.

They’re flying around the world in a single engine aircraft to raise money and awareness of a disease that some people erroneously think has been eradicated…polio.

They have raised more than $1 million for the effort to end polio, a disabling and life threatening disease that can cause paralysis. For every dollar that they raised, the Bill and Melinda Gates donated $2.

The two were happy to touch down on US soil yesterday.
